Dental fillings are used to fill small holes in a tooths enamel which is left for a period of time would lead to a greater degree of tooth decay and possible dental extraction. Historically dental fillings were used given mercury / silver fillings. There is now a greater emphasis on aesthetically pleasing fillings and most dental practices now offer white fillings as an alternative. Most dentists will offer an injection to numb the said tooth prior to the treatment. Dental fillings are not a time consuming procedure.
