Most dentists now offer consultations and treatment with their dental hygienists. This treatment offers clear dental care advice, brushing techniques, and scale and polishing. Dental care begins at a very young age with many health visitors and school nurses targeting children and young people about the importance of good dental care and regular check-ups and the benefits of a healthy diet. Schools are now signed up to a Healthy Care Programme which bans unhealthy foods and promotes fruit and water instead of crisps, biscuits and fizzy drinks. Both local and central government are fully committed to the promotion of a healthy diet and good regular dental care.
